How to Redact a PDF on Android

On Android, most Android PDF apps annotate rather than edit, and usually substitute the font when they do. That is why people end up searching for a way to redact a PDF properly.

Open Chrome and choose the file from Downloads, Drive or a Gmail attachment. Then work through the same steps as anywhere else:

Open the PDF and switch to the redaction tool.

Drag over each region that must be removed — names, numbers, whole paragraphs.

Apply the redaction. The text objects inside those regions are deleted before the black mark is drawn.

Export, then reopen the file and search for a redacted word to confirm it returns nothing.

Saving the finished file

When you export, the Android share sheet saves to Drive, Downloads or a messaging app. PDF, PNG and JPG are all available.
