How do I make a PDF small enough to email?

Find the images — they are essentially always the reason a PDF is large. A phone-scanned ten-page contract can be 25 MB while the same document as text is under 200 KB.

Downsample images to around 150 dpi for screen use and the file typically shrinks by an order of magnitude.
