How to Edit a CV or Resume PDF
Updated 2026-09-17 · 2 min read
You exported your CV two years ago, the original file is gone, and you need one line changed before applying tonight. Rebuilding the layout is not a good use of the evening.
Editing the PDF directly keeps the design exactly as a designer or template left it.
PDFfont edits PDF text in the document's own embedded font — no white cover boxes.
Edit a PDFSmall factual updates
Phone numbers, email addresses, dates and job titles are single lines and swap out invisibly in the original font.
Longer rewrites
Rewriting a bullet point longer than the original may push it beyond the column. Keep to roughly the same length, or edit the neighbouring line too so the block stays balanced.
Before you send
Export and reopen the file. Recruiter systems parse text, so check the edited line still selects and copies as normal text.
Frequently asked
Will ATS software still read it?
Yes, the edit stays as real text rather than an image.
Can I add a new section?
You can add text blocks, but a substantially new layout is better done in the original design file.
Can I change the photo?
Yes, images can be replaced or removed.
