Does editing a PDF change its metadata?

Updated 2026-09-17 · 2 min read

Saving a PDF updates its modification date, and the producer field usually names the software that wrote the file.

The original author and creation date are generally preserved unless you clear them.

PDFfont edits PDF text in the document's own embedded font — no white cover boxes.

Check document properties for names, file paths and titles you would rather not send. Sensitive text hides in metadata surprisingly often.
